Debra S Wells - Morrisville Debra Slayton Wells, 48, died suddenly Monday afternoon November 24, 2014. Deb was born in Burlington on March 26, 1966, the daughter of Velma Jean (Knapp) Slayton and Walter B. Slayton, Jr. She graduated from Stowe High School in 1984 and Johnson State College in 1989. Deb began her 18 year teaching career at Hardwick Elementary in 1989 and followed with stints at Hyde Park, Eden and Cambridge Elementary Schools. Numerous other jobs followed until she found the position she truly loved, Athletic Trainer at her alma mater, Stowe High School. She enjoyed the interactions with the student athletes and felt pride in helping them return to their respective sports after sustaining injuries. A testament to her love of athletic training – after Deb sustained a fractured foot last winter she continued to fulfill her duties while on crutches. No one will soon forget the sight of Deb sitting in a chair and having the chair pushed across the ice at Stowe Arena so she could attend to an injured hockey player! Deb was most at peace when she could be active in the outdoors, whether it was running (including 10 marathons), hiking, downhill and cross country skiing, softball or just walking the trails at a very special private property in Morrisville. Deb is survived by her husband Raymond, son Jesse, daughter Brooke; her mother Jean and spouse Andre' Bourdeau; her 4 siblings Darleen Slayton Hemphill, Michael Slayton and partner Claudia Cusson, Mary Slayton Speer and husband Greg, David Slayton and partner Babette Deuss; nieces and nephews Amanda, JT, Alison, Chelsea, Joseph, Natalie, Christian, Kaitlynn, Daniel, Carson, Sydney, Hunter, Hannah, Ethan, Rebecca, Olivia, Alana and Logan. She is also survived by her beloved golden retriever, Hagrid. She was predeceased by her father Walter B Slayton, Jr. Visiting hours will be held at the Faith Funeral Home, 165 Brooklyn St., Morrisville on Tuesday, December 2nd from 4-7 pm. A memorial service will be held at the Stowe Community Church on Wednesday December 3rd at 2 pm. In lieu of flowers donations can be made to the Lamoille Area Cancer Network, 198 Farr Avenue, Morrisville, VT 05661
