Sylvia L. Dent

Morrisville-Sylvia L. Dent, 80, died peacefully Monday, November 24, 2014 at Copley Hospital in Morrisville. She was born September 11, 1934 in Imboden, AR, the daughter Quint James Dent and Mildred L. Smith Dent.

Sylvia was proud to have served in the Women’s Army Corp from January 1953 through May 1957. She worked as a civilian for the Department of the Navy in San Diego, CA and retired from the Department of the Army at Fort Ord, CA. She was proud to have been a “pioneer” in computer programming. She retired from civil service in 1979.

Sylvia moved to Vermont in 1980 and never looked back. She loved Vermont where every season was her favorite. Sylvia was an avid golfer and spent many happy days on her favorite course: Copley Country Club in Morrisville.

Sylvia is survived by her partner and companion of 55 years, Joan Robinson; three brothers, Edwin Dent and wife, Alma of San Diego, CA; Joe Dent of Helena, AR; and Deke Dent and wife, Sharon of Redding, CA;a sister, Mary K. Hudson and husband, Wayne of Woodbine, GA. She also leaves her beloved Shih Tzu’s, Smooch and Harley and many friends from the area from her many years as Ticket Sales Manager at Mt. Mansfield. She was predeceased by her parents and brothers, Melvin, Alvin and Billy Dent and sister, Kittye Brown.

A memorial service will be held Saturday, December 6, 2014 at 10:00 a.m. at the First Congregational Church in Morrisville. Interment will be in the spring in the Vermont Veterans Cemetery in Randolph with full military honors. Faith Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
