Everett was not able to complete his education and had to start working at an early age and he never stopped. He worked on farms, the Mountain Company and the mines. He was always interested in heavy equipment and learned to operate the machinery. He joined Rudolph Ward and started Ward & Wallace. He then started Wallace Construction. He built bridges, golf courses, ballfields and any job that someone needed done.
His great love was building ponds throughout Vermont. Many beautiful ponds that are seen were built by Everett. He then started hauling gravel and his final years of work were to run a gravel pit until he retired at the age of 77. However, that did not slow him down. You would find Everett working around his home keeping everything in order. He enjoyed walking and snowshoeing. Grace and Everett created wonderful memories and went on vacations together. He was a member of the Associated General Contractors.
